Tanner grew up in Challis, ID and started guiding on the Middle Fork when he was 18. He joined the Marines for four years and worked in infantry. Upon his return from the Marines he started guiding on the Middle Fork again. He spends his off seasons guiding bear and moose hunts in Alaska, and deer, elk and mountain lion hunts in the Frank Church Wilderness and White Cloud Wilderness. He also enjoys playing the guitar, training horses, trapping and shed hunting. He just recently married Natalie who works here in the IWC office.
